Morrisey, or skiing down “Five Mile Run”, or flying down the ‘groomed black-diamond of the day’. For snowboarders, there’s a 10-acre terrain park with distinct zones for all abilities. And there are over 34km of groomed/track-set cross-country trails plus 19km of backcountry trails. Sun Peaks’ Sun Hosts provide complimentary guided tours every day, and if you’re lucky, your guide might be Nancy Green (Canada’s Olympic ski champion who makes Sun Peaks her home). Besides skiing, you can try your hand at Axe Throwing … join the group at the Tube Park … or book a fondue dinner up top, followed by a starlight descent.”

Trip Leader – Andrew Hackett    (425) 445-8771    hackettandrewthomas@gmail.com

SKIBACS members had so much fun in Whistler Blackcomb last season we decided to make it a standing trip going forward! Whistler and Blackcomb are two side-by-side mountains, offering over 200 marked runs, 8,171 acres of terrain, 16 alpine bowls and 3 glaciers combined, receiving 465 inches of snow on average annually. Late March is known as the local’s favorite powder hunt timeframe. All the holiday crowds are gone and the weather provides some incredible snowfall during this time. If the powder doesn’t show then you get the 2nd best thing with some incredible blue sunny days on the slopes with all the base built up from the season’s snowfall. If we get really lucky we get a week of powder and sun! On top of all the world class terrain available, Whistler village is unbeaten in Après, activities, shopping, and everything else you could ever desire when not on the slopes & all within walking range!

Lodge

The last summer work party for this year is scheduled for October 7 and 8.

What’s in a work party? Glad you asked!

We typically have maintenance projects that require plumbing, electrical, woodworking, and painting skills. We also need to remove brush every year around the lodge and bridge to keep the lodge’s fire perimeter in place.

We work 9AM-4PM Saturday and Sunday with a break at lunch. Community potluck dinner is served Saturday night. For every day worked, you earn one night’s voucher to stay at the lodge (excluding the week between Christmas and New Year’s). During the work party you can stay at the lodge for free for donating your time and efforts.

Not sure if your skill set aligns? Reach out to Kevin and Corey. We need folks who can operate without direction, and folks to follow directions and assist.

The crew who typically shows up for these weekends is a lot of fun to hang out with and it’s a great way to meet your fellow skiers and boarders in the off season. Thank you for making these weekends awesome and keeping our lodge in working order!
